Brewing - water
Filtration
Confirm equipment uses water at its recommended consumption
- if higher savings are possible
Reduce water for pushing through beer on brand changeover
- where possible follow one quality with another of similar colour
- little need for water between brands
Filter aid precoating is possible with slurry in bright beer
- reduced beer losses and water usage
- will increase pick-up of metal ions into beer, however
Consider crossflow microfiltration for beer filtration
- membrane technique, sometimes preceded by centrifugation
- most commonly polymeric membranes, possibly ceramic
- process economics do not favour kieselguhr plant replacement
- unless new plant or kieselguhr plant worn out
- the compact plant reduces water requirement
- at least 15% less
It may be possible to employ a reduced cleaning cycle if the next product has similar colour
- optimise product scheduling
- also reduce or eliminate chase liquor requirement
- also for stabiliser vessels and buffer tanks
