Steam distribution

Install a preventative maintenance and inspection programme

• employ written procedures
• inspect for changes / modifications since last inspection

Inspect for correct equipment to allow for:

• vibration expansion / contraction
• avoid condensate not draining from pipes
  • pipe slope at least 1:240
  • drain at least every 40 metres and at every low point
• control by valves
• steam trapping – Steam Traps

Insulate as much as possible

• including e.g. valves, flanges
• insulation thickness is optimised economically
  • consider occasional reviews as / if fuel prices change

Cover hot liquid surface e.g. hot well

• lid, blanket, plastic balls

Target operating velocity for saturated steam is 30-40 m/s

• not higher else pipe damage can occur
