Beer specialist analysis
To discuss your needs
We offer many services that look at the flavour and quality of products and their ingredients, including, sugar profiles, fatty acids, Tristimulus and flavour volatiles.
We have state of the art facilities for the analysis of sulphur volatiles (including MBT), semi volatiles and heterocyclics. Included in our sulphur volatiles screen is MBT, the chemical responsible for the lightstruck taint.
Health and nutrition
Analyses are available which can be used in labelling or related to nutrition. These include vitamins, salts, metals, energy and alcohol.
Propylene Glycol
Propylene glycol is used as a sweetener in alcoholic drinks in some countries but is not permitted in other countries. We can analyse for the presence / absence of propylene glycol in beer and other alcoholic beverages.
Taint and flavour defects
GC-MS and volatiles analysis are used to support sensory panel results in providing diagnosis and solutions.
Sulphur fingerprinting
Sulphur compounds are an integral part of beer flavour. Some of them are essential to create a balanced product, others are often regarded as detrimental. We have developed inert and sensitive extraction processes which, combined with selective separation and detection techniques, can monitor most of the highly volatile compounds (hydrogen sulphide, DMS, methanethiol etc.) and also the less volatile compounds like the thiazoles and thiophenes.
We can provide a sulphur fingerprint (10-20 components), compare the sulphur profile of different brands or monitor the sulphur profile while beer ages. This service helps with product matching, development of new products and assessment of new raw materials or processes.
