Understanding microbial genomes: Campden BRI seminar
During the last ten years, sequencing of DNA has become cheaper and more productive than anyone could have imagined previously. Now microbiologists use powerful sequencing methods to study the genomes of individual microorganisms and microbial communities.
Currently, the food industry is not routinely using sequencing for these analyses, despite its adoption by government agencies and healthcare practitioners. A Campden BRI seminar, to be held on 20th May, will highlight the areas in which sequencing technology is most likely to make an impact. It will cover:
- The past, present and future of genomics in food microbiology
- What genome microbiology consists of
- How bioinformatics are applied in food safety applications
- How company laboratories can embrace genome microbiology for the benefit of the business
- How food poisoning outbreaks have been traced through next generation sequencing
- Update on the USA position
