Campden BRI offer microbiology analytical testing and consultancy services, including: analytical testing, safety and spoilage, molecular and microbiology methods, emerging microbiology, brewing microbiology research, industrial heat process microbiology and quality laboratory audit.


Microbiology

As the Head of Microbiology you will lead and manage the operation, projects and research of the Microbiology department, in particular: ensuring effective processes to meet service delivery targets aligned to accurate and informative support for clients, leading a large team to deliver knowledge and quality assurance to our customers & members, develop scientific capabilities; manage, develop and flex staff resources, facilities and equipment; budgets and financial performance; quality and health & safety.

Position

  • Leading and managing people (9 direct reports).
  • Leading and championing quality & health and safety.
  • Direct technical advice and support to the team.
  • Financial planning and budgetary management.
  • Deliver sales/operational plans to ensure a robust business pipeline in line with revenue and profit objectives.
  • Attend and represent CBRI at conferences, events– broader than just Micro, total business collaboration, partnering with Sales team.

Requirements

  • Degree in relevant science plus proven wide-ranging experience in microbiology projects and research
  • Experience of leading microbiology laboratory operations and/or projects.
  • Wide experience of leading people, creating clarity, coaching, and inspiring performance.
  • A working knowledge of the microbiology techniques and instrumentation used within Microbiology Department.
  • Experience of leading and implementing efficiency changes; always seeking improvements and increased capacity.
  • Proven competence in managing timely and cost-effective delivery of technical services.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Knowledge of the needs of the food and related industries would be desirable.
  • Experienced in the implementation of quality/business management systems and the requirements of the ISO 17025 standards.
  • Postgraduate/ professional qualifications in science are desirable
