BRCGS Packaging Materials Standard has been updated with Issue 7 being published in October 2024. Companies will be audited against the new standard from April 2025. BRCGS For Packaging Materials is used globally with more than 6000 sites being certified against it.
This seminar provides a timely opportunity to hear about the many changes to the standard and what manufacturers seeking certification.
Overview of BRCGS Packaging Materials Issue 7 - draft changes:
- Reinforcing the importance and many elements around culture
- Adopting the updated Codex Alimentarius (2022) General Principles of Food Hygiene requirements in Section 2
- Updating terms used throughout the standard, for example manufacturing and products, to allow for more consistency
- Reordering of clauses in section 3, to create a logical flow
- Clarification on outsourced processes and traded products
- New requirements around equipment controls
- Introduction of allergen management
- Use of risk assessments based on intended us of the product instead, of specific requirements for some elements of personnel controls
- Multiple new clauses and protocol updates.

Speakers
Mair James, Campden BRI
Mair joined Campden BRI during September 2019 and works as part of the Global Safety and Quality team. Her previous experience includes working in process and technical roles in businesses processing agricultural materials (Herbs) and in frozen food manufacture. Accompanied with her 1st class BSc (Hons) in Food Science and Technology from Cardiff Metropolitan University, Level 4 qualification in Food Safety and HACCP and the successful completion of the FSSC 22000 Lead Auditor training course.
Mair's knowledge and experience allow her to provide training, guidance and consultancy in relevant subjects regarding food safety management. Along with supporting BRCGS with their standards by being a member of multiple technical advisory committees and working groups.
Gwenda Jarrett, BRCGS
With over 36 years working in the food industry both in manufacturing and for the last 14 years in the certification industry. Gwenda had a wide range of experience setting standards, training, auditing and mentoring colleagues in product safety.
With experience in the packaging industry, a passion for packaging and its synergy to food and consumer products, 2024 has been an exciting time in developing Global Standard Packaging Materials issue 7.
