Microbiology Safety & Spoilage Team

Our Microbiology Safety & Spoliage Team provide technical support to the areas of challenge testing, shelf-life testing and general food spoilage and food safety research. This is a trainee Microbiology Technician role. Candidates will receive training in Microbiology techniques.

Position

Complete practical work on research and contract studies including sample receipt, sample analysis, plate counting, results calculation.
Calibration and monitoring tasks.
Housekeeping tasks required in accordance with the quality system.

Requirements

Keen interest in scientific subjects, Biology A Level would be beneficial but not essential.
Ability to learn techniques for working with spoilage organisms e.g. Pseudomonas, yeasts, and moulds, including knowledge media, incubation times and temperature requirements.
Ability to learn techniques for working with food borne pathogens e.g., Salmonella, Listeria, including knowledge of cell morphology, media, incubation times and temperature requirements.
Ability to learn techniques for calculating required dilutions of cultures to achieve a target level when inoculating packs of food products.

Please note- this is an entry level role and wouldn't be suitable for a Biology graduate.
