Microbiology Safety & Spoilage Team

Our Microbiology Safety & Spoliage Team provide technical support to the areas of challenge testing, shelf-life testing and general food spoilage and food safety research. This is a trainee Microbiology Technician role. Candidates will receive training in Microbiology techniques.

Position

  • ​Complete practical work on research and contract studies including sample receipt, sample analysis, plate counting, results calculation.
  • Calibration and monitoring tasks.
  • Housekeeping tasks required in accordance with the quality system.

Requirements

  • ​Keen interest in scientific subjects, Biology A Level would be beneficial but not essential.
  • Ability to learn techniques for working with spoilage organisms e.g. Pseudomonas, yeasts, and moulds, including knowledge media, incubation times and temperature requirements.
  • Ability to learn techniques for working with food borne pathogens e.g., Salmonella, Listeria, including knowledge of cell morphology, media, incubation times and temperature requirements.
  • Ability to learn techniques for calculating required dilutions of cultures to achieve a target level when inoculating packs of food products.
Please note- this is an entry level role and wouldn't be suitable for a Biology graduate.
