CLAS Team

​Campden BRI supports the food & drink industry with scientific testing, technology, consultancy and innovation. Quality is at the heart of everything we do. We're looking to expand our Campden Laboratory Approval Scheme Team and hire an experience Chemist with an excellent understanding of quality and the passion to become an internal & external Chemistry auditor.

You will have quality experience within a analytical chemistry laboratory and will have worked to the UKAS 17025 standard.


Position

  • Manage and deliver internal audits and independent laboratory assessments.
  • To deliver professional CLAS assessment.
  • To manage CLAS corrective action reviews to defined deadlines and required standard.
  • To accurately assess the suitability and status of laboratory operations (management and technical areas) against set standards, give recommendations for awarding CLAS compliance and to confirm compliance with internal procedures/GLP for internal audits.
  • To accurately review and comment on technical content of methods and suitability of supporting in house validation/verification data and QC checks in relation to intended use in relation to CLAS assessments.
  • To accurately assess suitability of actions to address findings raised by CLAS assessments and internal audits and provide constructive feedback.
  • Answer enquires relating to contract CLAS projects (as part of client contact during assessments) and promote Campden BRI as a centre of excellence in within the food and related industry sectors.
  • Provide practical, reliable, technically valid training and consultancy to assist laboratories develop quality systems and work towards their chosen accreditation/certification.
  • Contribute to the development of services provided by CLAS.
  • Present lectures on Campden BRI courses and at appropriate meeting.

Requirements

  • Recognised qualifications and proven, up to date knowledge and experience in a wide range of food compositional analyses and contaminant testing.
  • Significant practical experience and technical understanding of up-to-date standard/recognised food compositional methods, instrumental methods, common commercial rapid methods, and routine testing activities.
  • Extensive experience and understanding of the management, technical and quality requirements in ISO 17025 and/or CLAS Standard - acquired by first-hand experience over several years a) managing/supervising, at a senior level, accredited laboratory operations and b) developing and implementing quality systems within laboratories.
  • Proven experience of planning and conducting in house method evaluations/validations, appraising data, and compiling validation reports.
  • Experience of deriving Measurement Uncertainty values and associated statistical approaches.
  • Although not essential, training in the principles of auditing with previous proven experience of auditing quality systems against recognised Standards (preferably within laboratory operations) is desirable.
  • Although the above experience and knowledge associated with food compositional analysis/contaminant testing is sought, experience/knowledge of microbiology testing activities and associated recognised/standard methods for pathogens, spoilage, indicator organisms could be desirable, but is not essential to the post (to potentially support the microbiology laboratory assessment services also provided by CLAS).
  • Able to work independently, respond to unforeseen situations, rapidly appraise suitability of information/situations, and make accurate decisions.
  • Ability to work in small team, be able to effectively manage own time and deliver work of the required accuracy and standard to defined timescales.
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel, Word and Outlook.
  • Full and clean driving licence.
