We offer commercial analytical lab chemistry testing for food and drink, including: nutritional and health, microscopy, biochemistry, allergens, chromatography,  packaging, cereals and ingredients, and wines and spirits

Wines & Spirits Team

Do you have a passion for science and Wines? Campden BRI's Guildford site is the UK's leading centre for wine analysis and research, covering all matters related to wine development, production, and analysis.

Our lab is based in Guildford Research Park, Surrey and our growing team offer wine consultancy services to the UK & Global wine industries (winemakers, wineries, wine importers and retailers) including:

  • Wine analysis
  • Bespoke analysis methods
  • Pre and post bottling packages
  • Comprehensive taint investigation service
  • Wine consultancy

Position

  • Managing chemical and sensory testing, interpretation of results, identifying faults, advising and providing consultancy to clients -including UK vineyards, UK bottlers of imported bulk wine and bottled wine, retailers and distilleries.
  • Financial and budgetary management for the sectional cost centre.
  • Business development, including external marketing and sales, and strategic thinking in new products and services.
  • Leadership and management of staff including recruitment, development, motivation and efficient utilisation.
  • Ensuring operational efficiency through resource management and work practices.
  • Technical delivery of outputs to agreed service levels.
  • Implementation of required systems of business management (including H&S) control.
  • Maintenance of up to date knowledge of scientific and technical developments in the field.

Requirements

  • A degree or equivalent experience in Chemistry or related field – likely to be a recognised expert in field.
  • Ideally WSET Level 3 in Wines & Spirits or Level 4 (Diploma) in Wines & Spirits.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience interpreting chemical and sensory analytical data of global wines and spirits.
  • Experience of supervising staff to deliver results on-time and to budget.
  • Experience of working in a fast paced, high throughput laboratory.
  • Computer literate – proficient use of Word, Excel, Power Point and LIMS.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of UK/ global wine industry.
