Campden BRI offer microbiology analytical testing and consultancy services, including: analytical testing, safety and spoilage, molecular and microbiology methods, emerging microbiology, brewing microbiology research, industrial heat process microbiology and quality laboratory audit.


Microbiology

You could be part of the innovation, research, & technology that guides the global Food and Drink industry. Campden BRI provide science, technology and innovation support to the food and drink industry. Our Microbiology teams test for viruses and pathogens in food & drink, testing the finished product and throughout the manufacturing/ supply process and offer consultancy work.

Position

We offer a flexible graduate programme, supporting you, allowing you to gain experience, brilliant insight, variety, & knowledge development:

  • Microbiology focus
  • Dedicated senior mentor to guide & support you
  • Training placements within your scientific area and across the business
  • On the job learning in ISO & UKAS accredited labs
  • We also give a great grounding in the overall business with short secondments to operating units & commercial areas- to ensure you get the most knowledge and insight possible.
  • Practical Microbiology laboratory work on research and contract studies including sample receipt, sample analysis, plate counting, results calculation.
  • Calibration and monitoring tasks.
  • Housekeeping tasks required in accordance with the quality system.
  • Contribution to client facing tasks such as answering enquiries, sending interim reports and contributing to proposals.



Requirements

  • If you are a dedicated graduate with a minimum 2:1 degree in Microbiology or Biology.

  • Experience of using your initiative and the ability to take responsibility (evidenced by volunteering, extracurricular activities, work).

  • Interest in food & drink microbiology.
  • Experience/knowledge of working with spoilage organisms e.g. Pseudomonas, yeasts and moulds, lactic acid bacteria including knowledge media, incubation times and temperature requirements.
  • Experience/knowledge in working with food borne pathogens e.g. Salmonella, Listeria, including knowledge of cell morphology, media, incubation times and temperature requirements
  • Experience in calculating concentrations and dilutions required to prepare chemical solutions and microbial suspensions of specified cell count.
  • Competent in the use of Excel and Word.
  • Due to our location- you will be required to drive & have your own transport to site at Chipping Campden.

Additional information:

Please note due to our rural location you must be able to drive and have your own transport.


The site is within driving distance of several towns, including Stratford-upon-Avon, Cheltenham and Evesham.


Working hours- Monday-Friday 8.45am-5.15pm (4.30pm finish on Fridays).


The successful candidate must, by the start of their employment, have permission to work in the UK.
